I'm growing broccoli microgreens

I've started growing more types of microgreens indoors in our NYC home because I want to grow more of our own food. It's healthier, cheaper, and easy. All you need:

  • Inexpensive grow trays
  • Grow medium (I prefer soil free)
  • Good organic seeds from a reputable source
  • Water
  • Light (window most of the year, andfor the winter I have grow lights)
  • 10-14 days of care

Race report: Tour de Donut Austin 2016

On Nov 13, 2016, I won the Tour de Donut of Austin bicycle race, a 24.8 mile ride w/3 donut stops where competitors eat donuts for time credits.

In this race, each donut eaten gives you 3min credit at the first stop, 4 min at the 2nd stop, and 7 min at the 3rd stop. I ate 31, for a 'donut adjusted time' of -1 hour and 19  minutes. Both new course records.

I just broke my own record & defended my championship at the Donut Derby bike race

I defended my Donut Derby bike race championship by eating 55 donuts, and broke the record I set last year (54 donuts). Each donut eaten at this race give riders a 3 min time credit and I had a final time of negative 11 minutes. So full!

I just defended my championship title at the 28th annual Tour De Donut

Yesterday I defended my championship title at the 28th annual Tour de Donut. There were some new guys that put up 19-20 doughnuts and rode at a decent pace. The women's champion, Katherine, is pregnant and downed half a dozen doughnuts!

Happy #DoughnutDay ! I once ate 54 doughnuts during a 36 mile bike race

On September 7, 2015 I won the Lehigh Wheelman Association's Donut Derby bicycle race, a 36 mile ride w/2 donut stops at mile 12 and 24 where competitors eat donuts. Each donut eaten=3min time credit. I ate 54, for a 'donut adjusted time' of -35 minutes (my unadjusted time was 2hr 7min). Both new course records. The previous champ held the title for the last 6 consecutive years. This is my GoPro POV video, raw and unedited.

I just won the 'Donut King' title at the San Luis Obispo Tour de Donut and it was epic!

Jake Pickett on right (Overall Champ) and me (Donut King)

Jake Pickett on right (Overall Champ) and me (Donut King)

The San Luis Obispo Tour de Donut is an amazing race. Definitely the most difficult of all the Tour de Donuts. This 2 stage race is really unique. In Stage 1, the whole pack of cyclists ride 15 miles together, making 3 stops to eat donuts for time credits. The time credit given per donut eaten is only 15 seconds (vs 3 or 5 min for other Tour de Donuts). Then Stage 2 is a time trial up Perfumo Canyon Road. It's a very steep (6% avg grade) 3 mile climb.

I won the "Donut King" title for most donuts consumed (22) and Jake Pickett won the Overall title by making it to the top of the road first. He's a beast! This race will test you to the limits and the folks who put it on are really into it.  Check out slotourdedonut.com for more info!

I rode my bike for 20 miles from Manhattan out to City Island and it was amazing!

95% of the trip was on dedicated bike path

NYC has really stepped up their bike paths in recent years

It's pretty amazing that City Island is part of NYC!

If you ever go to City Island, eat at Sammy's. Split an entree because their serving sizes are HUGE!

I'm doing the Mini Mighty Man sprint triathlon

I'm going to do the Mini Mighty Man sprint/pool triathlon on April 17th in East Meadow, NY (Kong Island). I did it last year and loved it. It's a really short and quick race that you can do in under an hour. It's great for seasoned athletes to warm up for the start of the tri season, but also a safe and easy option for beginners in the area who want to try out the sport. Training for next Tour de Donut!

I'm training for the San Luis Obispo Tour de Donut (http://www.slotourdedonut.com) bicycle race happening on May 21. These are the kinds of races that I do well in. Stage 1 is a 15 mile tour with 3 donut stops where riders eat all the donuts they can in 10 minutes at each stop. Each donut eaten earns riders a 15 second time credit for Stage 2 of the race. Stage 2 is a very tough 3 mile 5.5% time trial where riders race up Prefumo Canyon Road. The rider with the most donut eaten from Stage 1 goes first.

So I'm spending the next few weeks focusing on climbing. I did over 1000ft of climbing today on Zwift.

I'm about 2/3 of way to completing the @gozwift Ride California challenge.

I'm addicted to Zwift

I've ridden 866km on my bike trainer in just over a month. Zwift has completely transformed my bike training sessions. The miles go by quickly. My training is harder and smarter, focusing on power output vs speed and I'm already seeing improvement.

Here's my progress over the past 30+ days
